Faith and mental health are often placed in opposition, but I do not experience them that way. In my life and work, they belong together.
My faith shapes how I understand hope, perseverance, suffering, and the worth of every person. It does not erase pain or provide simple answers to complex struggles. Instead, it gives meaning, grounding, and a lens through which suffering can be acknowledged rather than denied. Scripture reflects this truth by recognizing that hardship is part of the human story and that God draws near in it.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)
Emotional pain, anxiety, grief, and trauma are not signs of spiritual weakness or failure. They are part of the human experience and signals that something within us needs care. Seeking help, learning coping skills, and tending to mental health are not contradictions to faith. They can be expressions of wisdom, responsibility, and stewardship.
Mental health care offers structure, insight, and tools that help people better understand themselves and their experiences. Faith offers meaning, comfort, and a steady sense of grounding. I do not see these as competing forces. I see them as complementary supports that serve different purposes while working toward the same goal of wholeness and care. Scripture itself affirms the value of seeking guidance and counsel.
“Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” (Proverbs 20:18)
Faith, as it is reflected here, is never used to minimize pain, rush healing, or bypass emotional work. Jesus met people in their suffering with compassion, patience, and presence. He did not shame them for their pain or demand quick resolution.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
Rest does not mean avoidance. It means safety. It means being held long enough to breathe and begin again.
This space is shaped by faith and guided by professional boundaries. It honors personal dignity, thoughtful care, and the importance of appropriate support. Healing is rarely singular or linear. It often unfolds through multiple sources of wisdom working together over time.
